Why propose with a Cubic Zirconia engagement ring?

Sales of temporary engagement rings have sky rocketed in recent years because they offer many benefits. Cubic zirconia engagement rings are perfect for a surprise proposal [you don’t have to ask anyone for advice]; they are an exceptionally good substitute for diamond; they don’t cost the earth and they give you some breathing space after the proposal is accepted to shop for the forever ring together – so she gets a ring which perfectly suits her tastes. Cubic Zirconia engagement rings also make great travel companions as there’s no need for costly insurance or to worry about heartbreaking loss or theft.

However, the key reason grooms are choosing to propose with a CZ engagement ring is to eliminate the huge risk of buying an expensive diamond ring which she may hate. Are you seriously going to spend thousands of dollars on a diamond engagement ring without knowing whether she’ll like it?

Read our article entitled “Five reasons why you should propose with a CZ engagement ring” [CLICK HERE] to learn more on why prospective grooms are choosing to propose with a CZ ring.

What material do you use for the band?

Most Luxuria Jewellery rings are crafted in rhodium plated 925 sterling silver. We never hollow out our rings to cut costs—a common practice that we refuse to accept. Comparatively speaking, our jewelry tends to be heavier. Silver is a precious metal but fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing large functional objects.

Therefore, silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it more strength. Sterling silver is an alloy containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, such as copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. This alloy preserves the elasticity and beauty of the precious metal.

What is rhodium plating?

Since rings are prone to more wear and tear than any other jewelry they will lose luster over time from scratches. Rhodium plating is a type of metal plating that helps prevent an object from being scratched or tarnished and improves the object’s color quality.

A member of the platinum group, rhodium is the one of the most expensive metals in the world. Rhodium is a shiny, white metal that is highly reflective and durable and often used as a hardening agent for platinum. A further benefit of rhodium is that is hypoallergenic meaning it can help reduce the chances of an allergic reaction.  Nearly all Luxuria® Jewellery cubic zirconia engagement rings are rhodium plated to help prevent scratches, improve colour quality and protect the wearer from possible metal allergies.

Do Cubic Zirconia Have Different Types of Quality?

Yes. Just like any other man-made product, there is good quality and poor quality CZ. Luxuria uses only the best with quality with very high purity levels. To learn more about the quality level of cubic zirconia we use read our Quality Diamond Simulant page. [CLICK HERE].

Of the six grades of CZ available—A being the lowest and 6A the highest—Luxuria Jewellery engagement rings which have the LUX hallmark use stones that surpass the industry standards for grade 5A.  The grade is so high and the cut so good that without sophisticated testing equipment, no one but an expert jeweler or gemologist can tell she’s not wearing real diamonds.

Remember that quality is also a function of the cut. You should always seek out the best cut. Regardless of the material you start with, if the stones are not cut correctly, they will not have the brilliance and sparkle that maximizes their beauty.  LUX hallmark rings with round stones from Luxuria Jewellery use a Star cut.  The star cut is aligned with precision and carefully shaped facets when combined with optimum proportions produce an incredibly brilliant sight, called Eight Hearts and Eight Arrows.

What’s the benefit of Hearts & Arrows cut?

Luxuria Jewellery diamond simulant rings with round stones and the LUX hallmark use a Star cut.  The cut when seen through a viewer has a Hearts and Arrows (H&A) pattern with eight hearts and eight arrows.   This is typically only found in real diamonds that meet the American Gem Society Laboratories’ “0” Ideal Cut specifications.

The benefit to customers comes in the form of light performance that is maximized by the precise alignment of the facets.  A higher degree of optical precision translates to produce sparkle which is larger in size, brighter, and more vivid.

How do I know which ring is most suited to her?

We’ve authored two articles to help you answer this important question. Please read “Matching your sterling silver engagement ring to her” [CLICK HERE] which discusses how to first; Match the central stone shape of your sterling silver engagement ring to her finger and second, Match the central stone cut of your sterling silver engagement ring to her personality. Then read our five step guide entitled “Doing cubic zirconia engagement rings the right way” [CLICK HERE] to learn about cubic zirconia (CZ) stone grades, the importance of band materials and more.

How can I find the right ring size?

Thankfully, selecting your Luxuria jewellery ring size is easy. Simply follow our two step guide. First, TRY-OUT. Pinch one of her existing rings and visit a jeweler and have them measure the ring size. It’s the safest way and at the same time you can peruse their range and then compare what you see to what we offer online. Luxuria jewellery ring size is specified in USA measurements – so ask the jeweler for the US ring size.

Second and alternatively, you can measure the internal diameter of an existing ring she has that fits comfortably on the finger of choice and then compare the measurement with the chart included in our article entitled “Selecting your Luxuria jewellery ring size” [CLICK HERE] which includes further tips on selecting the correct ring size for your beloved.

What diamond simulant do you use?

Luxuria Jewellery uses a variety of stones for its rings.   While some Luxuria Jewellery rings are set with natural diamond gemstone, others use semi-precious natural gemstones, synthetics or diamond simulant.   Examples of diamond simulant include cubic zirconia, moissanite and crystal.   To better understand what are the best fake diamonds we refer you to this article; “What are the best fake diamonds for rings” [CLICK HERE]

The majority of Luxuria Jewellery rings use a diamond simulant called cubic zirconia. Cubic zirconia (also known as CZ) is a synthetic crystalline substance used as an alternative to diamonds. This man-made material is colorless, hard, and flawless. Its popularity stems from its diamond-like brilliance and clarity, low cost, and overall durability.

Cubic Zirconia is a cubic form of zirconium oxide that is created in a laboratory, thus it is not a mineral. Synthesized zirconium oxide, cubic zirconia, is hard (8.5 on Mohr’s Scale of Hardness), optically flawless and usually colorless.  Since CZ is transparent, it is often faceted. It can be made in nearly any color and can be faceted into many cuts.

Luxuria® Cubic Zirconia engagement rings which have the LUX hallmark use the highest grade of CZ, are near colorless (D color), are internally flawless and round stones feature an ideal cut to “Hearts and Arrows” for maximum fire. Only a professional gemologist can tell the difference between hand cut CZ and diamond.

Can CZ dull or get cloudy with time?

Luxuria Jewellery is frequently asked whether cubic zirconia changes color, clouds, dulls or looks hazy with time.

Early cubic zirconia was a very porous material which easily absorbed body oils.  They would get cloudy over a short period of time.  Modern CZ is vastly improved.  But like any gemstone, including diamond, CZ can dull if not cleaned regularly to remove oil residues from sweat, soap, lotion, hairspray, or makeup.

For more details read our article entitled “Does CZ Dull or Get Cloudy with Time?” [CLICK HERE]

What’s the difference between simulant and synthetic diamond?

We regularly get questions asking what the differences are between lab-created, simulant, synthetic, cultured and hybrid diamonds. The terminologies can be confusing and are sometimes incorrectly used online.

To be clear, diamond simulants merely look like diamonds. Diamond simulants do not have the physical or chemical properties of natural diamond. While some diamond simulants can be created by nature, quartz and white topaz for example, most are man-made. Examples of man-made diamond simulants are cubic zirconia and Moissanite.

Synthetic diamonds are sometimes referred to as cultivated, cultured, man-made or lab-created. Synthetic diamond has the same chemical properties as natural diamonds—pure carbon. Gem-quality diamonds grown in a lab can be chemically, physically and optically identical to naturally occurring ones.

As part of our commitment to educating customers Luxuria Jewellery has written an article entitled “Diamonds Simulants & Synthetics – Differences Explained” [CLICK HERE].  In this article we define diamond, diamond simulants, synthetics and hybrids. We then go on to demystify the differences. As you will read there is nothing wrong with buying any of these alternatives. What is important is that you understand what differentiates each. That way you can hopefully make an informed buying decision.

How do I care for Luxuria Jewellery rings?

Always take your jewelry off before you swim, bath or shower or when using any chemical substances such as applying hair products, lotions, soaps, and perfume.  Do not wear your jewelry while doing housework, especially when washing dishes or hand washing laundry. Remove jewelry before gardening or undertaking exercise such as working out or lifting weights.

Store your jewelry pieces separately to avoid scratching each other. Cleaning Luxuria Jewellery is quite easy.  For best results we recommend using a home ultrasonic machine and the cleaning solution that comes with it. The other option is to soak in lukewarm soapy water for about 10 minutes, then gently use a small, soft toothbrush to clean off any residue.  Remember to clean the bottom of the stones to restore their sparkle.  Always rinse your jewelry well and gently pat dry with a lint-free towel to bring out the shine.

DO NOT use silver liquid cleaner to clean our rhodium-plated jewelry.  It is too harsh and can dull and/or harm the rhodium plating.
